One aspect of the book Making Marigold: Beaders of Bulawayo tells of how each of these women came to join Marigold and what their individual roles and responsibilities are in the co-op.
In July 2017 Joni Brenner and Liz Whitter flew up to do the photo-shoot, the Marigold beading studio was transformed into a photographic studio reminiscent of ones all over Africa. The choice of fabrics, the lighting, the props of looms and strings of beads shared and passed around as the photos were taken speaks to the highly constructed yet spontaneous nature of the images. Some of these are featured on this website and in the book.
